Rare Wild Animals

This album shows rare wild mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles in China that are under first- and second-grade state protection. The physical features, distribution and habits of each species are described in explanatory text.

With its vast area, diverse landscape and climate variations, China harbors a rich variety of wildlife. It is one of ten countries with the largest numbers of biological species in the world. In terms of temperature, the nation can be divided from south to north into equatorial, tropical, subtropical, warm-temperate, temperate and cold-temperate zones. In terms of moisture, it can also be divided from southeast to northwest into humid, semi-humid, semiarid and arid zones. China's topography is varied and complicated, with towering mountains, different sized basins, undulating plateaus and fertile plains.

List of key protected wild animals in China

中国原林业部和农业部根据《中华人民共和国野生动物保护法》的相关规定，制定并发布由国家重点保护的珍贵、濒危野生动物的名录。其中保护级别分为一级和二级，并且对水生、陆生动物作了具体划分，明确了由渔业、林业行政主管部门分别主管的具体种类。
2021年2月5日，国家林业和草原局、农业农村部，经国务院批准，向公众发布《国家重点保护野生动物名录》。《名录》列入野生动物980种和8类，其中国家一级保护野生动物234种和1类、国家二级保护野生动物746种和7类。
