Use for relieving edema, heaviness sensation in limbs, oliguria, vomiting after drinking water, frequent watery diarrhea due to retention of fluid. The classical formula "Wu Ling San" (Powder of Five Ingredient Containing Poria) in TCM is primarily used for inducing diuresis, eliminating dampness, warming yang and promoting qi function, for syndrome of fluid retention in the interior, marked by edema, diarrhea, dysuria, pale tongue with glossy whitish fur, soft pulse.

Ingredients:
Poria (sclerotium)
Zhu ling (sclerotium)
Asian water plantain (rhizome)
Bai-zhu atractylodes (rhizome)
Cassia (bark)

Actions: Promotes urination, drains damp, strengthens the Spleen, warms the Yang and promotes transformation of Bladder Qi.

Main indications: Use for helping edema, heaviness sensation in limbs, oliguria, vomiting after drinking water, frequent watery diarrhea due to retention of fluid.
1. Accumulation of cold water in the Lower Jiao, possibly with external Wind Cold: Difficult urination, fever, irritability, strong thirst with vomiting after drinking, and headache;
2. Spleen Qi deficiency causing internal accumulation of water and dampness: General muscle and skin edema with a sensation of heaviness, difficult urination, diarrhea, and vomiting.
3. Accumulation of fluids in the Lower Jiao (Tai Yin Syndrome): A pulsing or throbbing sensation below the umbilicus, frothy saliva, dizziness, vertigo, shortness of breath, and coughing.

It is applicable to edema from nephritis and cirrhosis, acute enteritis, uroschesis, hydrocephalus and others, which pertain to fluid-retention and dampness in the interior. *

Directions: Take 3 pills each time, 2 times a day.

服法与用量:口服,一次3粒,一日2次。

五苓散处方源于《伤寒论》。五苓散非单治膀胱蓄水证,只要饮蓄脏腑,浊邪为害,诸如饮停胃脘的水逆证;水气凌心之心悸;浊邪害清之头晕,及其特发性浮肿等, 致水饮停蓄,寒水冲逆,服之皆有良效。五苓散功擅利湿,临床凡以湿为病者,不论其症状异同,以本方治之多能取效。小儿脾常不足,运化功能尚未健全,水湿内停所致疾患较多。五苓散不仅能健运利湿,化气行水,且有健脾之功,故尤适于儿科临床。
