Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan (Eight Flavor Rehmanni Extract)

use for menopause with hot flash and night sweat, vaginal dryness and irritation, insomnia, tiredness, depression and anxiety, osteoarthritis, weak and sore knees, lower back pain, tinnitus, toothache, swollen gums, thirsty. It is a modification of the fundamental prescription "Six Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia" by adding Anemarrhena and Phellodendron, being primarily used for syndromes of kidney yin deficiency and hyperactivity of liver yang. For clients with chronic disease, it is advisable to take Pill of Six Ingredients with Rehmanniae after purge of pathogenic fire.

Actions: Nourishes kidney-yin and purges fire due to deficiency of the yin.

Main indications: Use for deficiency of yin with fire hyperactivity, or with damp-heat in the lower burner, which are marked by ear ringing, wet dreams, hot and steaming sensation of the bones, lower back pain and soreness, weakness, sore throat, dry mouth and tongue, seeing spots in front of the eyes, tidal fever, painful and swollen gum, teeth loosing, gum inflammation, hot flashes during menopause, chronic burning sensation during urination, red tongue, thin and rapid pulse.*

Directions: Take 8 pills each time, 3 times a day as a herbal supplement.
Caution: Do not use during pregnancy. It is not advisable to clients with spleen deficient type of diarrhea and indigestion with a white and greasy tongue coat.

知柏地黄丸处方源于明·张景岳《景岳全书》，原名为滋味八味丸，是由六味地黄丸加知母、黄柏而成。

中医认为潮热盗汗，口干咽痛，头晕耳鸣，梦遗滑精，小便短赤等症状，为肾阴虚、相火妄动、 “虚火”上升引起，而非“实火”，因此不能使用清热泻火的方法治疗。肾中虚火由肾阴虚引起，中医称为“阴不制阳”，因此正确的解决方法是，滋补肾阴，使阴 液不再亏虚，阴阳归于平衡，则虚火自消。

除知柏地黄丸主症外，对于肾阴虚损、阴虚火旺引起的神经衰弱，甲状腺功能亢进，糖尿病、眩晕、高血压、男性不育、不射精、反复发作性血精、肾病综合症、尿路感染、前列腺炎、更年期综合症、氨基甙类药物引起的耳毒性症状、顽固性盗汗等病症，均有明显的治疗和改善症状作用。

对于服用类固醇激素类药物所出现的阴虚火旺症状也有减轻作用。

因为阴虚是本，火旺是标，所以降火药只能暂用，虚热症消失后应改用六味地黄丸。
