san bi tang (Circulate Herbs Decoction)

for joint pain with difficulty in movement, hand or foot spasms, caused by wind, cold and damp, blockage in the narrow sense involving the joints of the limbs, and issufficiency of liver blood and kidney qi. Circulate Herbs Decoction is a prepared formula of the ancient formula "San Bi Tang" ("Decoction for Three Painful Obstruction") , which is a modification of "Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang" (Angelica Pubescens and Sangjisheng Decoction) and has the same function as Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang but strongly benefiting qi by adding Astragalus and Sichuan leasel.

Actions: Invigorates qi and activates blood circulation, dispels wind and eliminates dampness.

Indications: It is indicated for bi-syndrome with deficient healthy qi and retained pathogenic factors, arthralgia caused by wind, cold and damp, blockage in the narrow sense involving the joints of the limbs, marked by joint pain with difficulty in movement. It is applicable to arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, scapulohumeral periarthritis, hyperosteogeny.*

Directions: Take 3 pills each time, 2 times a day.

三痹汤处方源于《校注妇人良方》。本方为《备急千金要方》独活寄生汤化裁而来，集袪风除湿、散寒止痛、补气和血、益肾滋阴诸药于一剂，专治风、寒、湿三气袭 虚所致之行、痛、着痹，故称“三痹汤”。临床应用治疗类风湿性关节炎、膝骨性关节炎、肩周炎、髌骨软骨软化症、 痛风性关节炎、神经根型颈椎病、中风病及中风病后遗症。

本方与独活寄生汤比较，则本方偏治痹证兼有气血虚者；独活寄生汤则偏治肝肾不足，风寒湿邪痹阻于下半身的痹证。
